Arles del Río
(b. Havana, 1975)
Arles del Río is a self-taught artist. He was an artist-in-residence of the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, 2013; and the Cuban Artists Fund in New York, 2014. His solo exhibitions include La necesidad de otros aires (In Need of Other Airs) at La Cabaña Fortress in Havana, 2015; Cercanía (Nearness) in Times Square, New York, 2014; Esperando que caigan las cosas del cielo, o Deporte Nacional (Hoping that Things Fall from the Sky, or National Sport) at La Cabaña Fortress in Havana, 2012; Xlibrio at Legacy Fine Art Gallery in Panama City, Panama, 2011. His works have been featured in several group shows, including both iterations of Detrás del Muro (Behind the Wall), alongside the Malecon in Havana, 2015 and 2012; Nuevos colores (New Colors) at Robert Miller Gallery in New York, 2015; Stealing Base: Cuba at Bat at The 8th Floor in New York, 2013; and Premio Maretti (Maretti Award) at the Center for the Development of Visual Arts in Havana, 2012.
