Julia Valdés
(b. Santiago de Cuba, 1952)
Julia Valdés graduated from the José Joaquín Tejeda Provincial School of Visual Arts in Santiago de Cuba (1966) and the National School of Art in Havana (1972). In 1989, she earned a degree in Art History from the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba. Her solo exhibitions include Mi segunda piel (My Second Skin) at La Cabaña Fortress, during the 12th Havana Biennial, 2015; lluminaciones (Illuminations), collateral to the 11th Havana Biennial, 2012; Erosiones (Erosions) at Servando Gallery in Havana, 2008; Memoria sobre los muros (Walls Memory) at Wuensch Gallery in Linz, Austria, 2007; Umbral de la nostalgia (Threshold of Nostalgia) at Orígenes Gallery in Havana, 2006; and Puertas e interiores (Doors and Interiors) at Hipp-Halle in Gmunden, Austria, 2004. Her works are part of the collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana; the Emilio Bacardi Museum in Santiago de Cuba; the Huilense Institute of Culture in Huila, Colombia; and the National Council of Visual Arts in Havana.
