Rubén Alpízar
(b. Santiago de Cuba, 1965)
Rubén Alpízar graduated from the José Joaquín Tejada Provincial School of Visual Arts in Santiago de Cuba (1984) and the Superior Institute of Art in Havana (1989). His solo exhibitions include Babel at La Cabaña Fortress in Havana, during the 12th Havana Biennial, 2015; Mi Arca (My Ark) at Latin Art Core Gallery in Miami, Florida, 2014; Cenizas del paraíso (Ashes from Paradise) at Villa Manuela Gallery in Havana, 2010; Historias Vestidas (Dressed Stories) at the Infanta Cristina Cultural Center in Madrid, Spain, 2006; Cuban Barbecue Express at the Rum Museum in Havana, 2005; Continuación del mito (Continuity of the Myth) at Espacio 304 Gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2003; El vértigo de la libertad (The Dizziness of Freedom) at the Museum of the Americas in San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1999; and Otro dedo en la llaga (Another Finger in the Sore) at La Acacia Gallery in Havana, 1996. His works are part of the collections of the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen, Germany; the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts in New York City; the National Fund for the Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and the Montclair Art Museum in Montclair, New Jersey.
