Luis Gómez
(b. Havana, 1968)
Luis Gómez graduated from Elementary School of Visual Arts (1983), the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts (1987) and the Superior Institute of Art (1991), all in Havana. Gómez returned to ISA a few years after graduating to be a professor, and later became the Head of the New Media Lab. He works in a vast range of materials, reflecting his interest in the past and future through the use of traditional and new age media. Gómez was an artist-in-residence at the Mattress Factory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (2004); Art in General in New York City (2004); the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio (2001); the Barbican Center in London, United Kingdom (1999); the Midstream Art Alliance, Kansas City (1998); and the Ludwig Forum Für Internationale Kunst in Aachen, Germany (1992). His work is part of various international collections such as the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana; the Arizona State University Art Museum in Tempe, Arizona; the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; Ninart in Mexico City, Mexico; the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen, Germany; the Van Reekum Museum in Apeldoorn, Netherland; and the Wakita Museum of Art in Karuizawa, Japan.
