Reynerio Tamayo
(b. Niquero, 1968)
Reynerio Tamayo graduated from the Elementary Art School of Nueva Gerona, Isla de la Juventud in 1983, the National School of Arts in 1987 and the Superior Institute of Art in 1992. Some of his most recent solo exhibitions are Gangsters In Havana (collateral to the 11th Havana Biennial. La Cabaña Fortress, Havana, Cuba, 20012); The Promised Land (Habana Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 2011); November Station (Pedro Torres Gallery, Logroño, Spain, 2009); and Magma mía!!! (Villa Manuela Gallery, Havana, Cuba, 2008). He received the “Eduardo Abela” Grand Award at the 18th Graphic Humor Biennial (San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, 2013); a First Mention at the 1st International Cartoon Contest (Sinaloa, Mexico, 2012); the First Prize at the 2nd Salon of Erotic Art (Havana, Cuba, 2001); an Honorary Mention at the 1st Salon of Cuban Contemporary Art (National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba, 1995); and the “Golden Aesop” Grand Prize at the 91st International Biennial of Humor and Satire in the Arts (Gabrovo, Bulgaria, 1989). His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana and the Humor’s Museum in San Antonio de los Baños, both in Cuba; the Van Reekum Museum in Apeldoorn, Netherlands; the Coral Capital Art Collection in Panama City, Panama; the Daisaku Ikeda Collection in Japan; the von Christierson Collection in London, United Kingdom; and the Gilbert Brownstone collection in France, among others.
